European Australian Business : 2008
Australian National University, the University of Canberra and the CSIRO to promote research collaboration and commercialisa- tion in the knowledge industries. Canberra has a population of around 340,000 supplemented by an ad- ditional 218,000 people across the south-eastern region of New South Wales. Canberra is a truly diverse and cos- mopolitan city with around 70,000 residents born overseas, representing more than 34 different countries. As the national capital Canberra is also home to 90 diplomatic missions. But what sets Canberra aside from most other Australian and world cities is its incredible lifestyle. Dubbed the ‘bush capital’, Canberra is just a mat- ter of minutes from unspoilt nature parks and the magnificent Murrum- bidgee River system. Our open space network is world-renowned, and with more than half of the Australian Capi- tal Territory classed as national park or nature reserves, we are the envy of other cities. Canberra is central to key interstate attractions, with the golden sands of the New South Wales south coast and the Snowy ski fields within easy access. Canberra is a tolerant, diverse, safe and welcoming city. Our citizens live healthy lives, our people are better educated and earn better salaries than other Australians. I encourage anyone who is seeking the opportunity to invest in a city with unlimited business potential and life- style opportunities second-to-none, to consider Canberra, the heart of the Australian nation.
